Getting a golden magnifying glass on all recipes will net you a trophy. Finding all the ways to play in one recipe will change it to a golden magnifying glass. If you manage to only find some ways to play in a recipe, a gray magnifying glass will appear on the icon. It is possible to switch back to the stylus once the "New!" icon appears if you are not comfortable with the controls. 
Once you find a new way to play, a blue icon that say "New!" will show that you have completed the task and will only save once you have fully completed a recipe. Some of these new ways to play are efficient and can help you reduce the time it takes to finish a step. The actions that are used in this game are moving the Circle Pad, moving the screen in a certain direction, pressing the L and/or R Button, and blowing on the Microphone. Besides completing all recipes with a gold medal, finding all the ways by inputting new actions onto the steps is also available as an achievement option.
Some of the steps may include a magnifying glass on the top left corner that indicates that there is another way to play that step. In Cooking Mama 4: Kitchen Magic, due to the innovations of the 3DS system, this game provides new ways to play besides using the stylus.
